Up Close

I have painted animal portraits periodically since 2013, often as ancillary subjects within other collections. Last year, I assembled them together as a single collection and displayed them at the Montague & Studio Gallery in New Westminster in 2015. Subsequently, the collection has exhibited at Leigh Square Arts Village in 2016.

I paint a variety of subjects, but feel a special magic when painting an animal or person. We are hard-wired to respond to images of animals and people in a way that is very primal, and when done right, an animal painting always seems to retain something of the subject, such that the viewer knows they are looking at a picture, but cannot responding to the subject.
